An initial discussion for insurance agents and brokers

You do not need to have decided to sell

The first conversation is about your objectives and which alternatives deserve further consideration. We discuss timing, your future role, continuity for clients and colleagues, and what you want to preserve in the business you have built.

Three questions before the numbers

Start with a high-level overview

Prepare a brief description of your agency or brokerage, geographical coverage, team and business focus. Available aggregate figures can help explain scale and recent trends.

Do not send client lists, contracts, personal documents or detailed portfolios with an initial enquiry. The information needed for further work should be agreed in stages.

Agree confidentiality arrangements first

Before detailed documents are shared or potential counterparties approached, agree the purpose, recipients and handling of the information, including any confidentiality agreements required. An initial enquiry does not automatically lead to the presentation of your business to investors.

Define the next step without promising an outcome

The discussion may identify questions to clarify, data to collect or alternatives to assess. Any engagement, scope, timetable and fees are agreed separately. External legal specialists may be involved according to the transaction’s needs and agreed arrangements.

The first conversation is not a formal valuation and does not guarantee a sale or the identification of an investor.

For international investors

Share your investment criteria, target business profile, geographical focus and preferred partnership structure. A conversation can help assess potential alignment; it does not imply that a matching opportunity or mandate is currently available.
